چکیده

The 2003 Gibbs thermodynamic potential function represents a very accurate, compact, consistent and comprehensive formulation of equilibrium properties of seawater. It is expressed in the International Temperature Scale ITS-90 and is fully consistent with the current scientific pure water standard, IAPWS-95. Source code examples in FORTRAN, C++ and Visual Basic are presented for the numerical implementation of the potential function and its partial derivatives, as well as for potential temperature. A collection of thermo-dynamic formulas and relations is given for possible applications in oceanography, from density and chemical potential over entropy and potential density to mixing heat and en-tropy production. For colligative properties like vapour pressure , freezing points, and for a Gibbs potential of sea ice, the equations relating the Gibbs function of seawater to those of vapour and ice are presented.

Numerical implementation and oceanographic application of the Gibbs potential of ice

The 2004 Gibbs thermodynamic potential function of naturally abundant water ice is based on much more experimental data than its predecessors, is therefore significantly more accurate and reliable, and for the first time describes the entire temperature and pressure range of existence of this ice phase. It is expressed in the ITS-90 temperature scale and is consistent with the current scientifi...

Comparison of surface salinity of Persian Gulf water using field data and FVCOM numerical model

This paper investigates and estimates the surface salinity changes of the Persian Gulf using the FVCOM numerical model. Sea level salinity (SSS) is one of the important parameters in oceanographic studies. The Persian Gulf is a semi-closed and shallow sea, which is high in the Persian Gulf due to its low rainfall, salinity and water density. One of the limitations of this region is the lack of ...

Thermodynamic Analysis of Light Olefins Production via Cracking of n-Hexane Using Gibbs Energy Minimization Approach and Analysis of Overall Reactions

Thermodynamic analysis of the cracking of hexane has been conducted by the Gibbs free energy minimization method and second law analysis of overall reactions. By-products have been divided into three groups of methane, alkynes and aromatics and their possible production paths have been discussed. Effect of operating conditions such as temperature and steam-to-hexane ratio on the cracking perfor...

Thermodynamic properties of sea air

Very accurate thermodynamic potential functions are available for fluid water, ice, seawater and humid air covering wide ranges of temperature and pressure conditions. They permit the consistent computation of all equilibrium properties as, for example, required for coupled atmosphereocean models or the analysis of observational or experimental data. With the exception of humid air, these poten...

Theoretical study of the solvent effects on the thermodynamic functions of Alanine and Valine Amino Acids

Using Gaussian 03, software the thermodynamic functions such as Gibbs free energy, G, Enthalpy, H, and Entropy, S, of Alanine and Valine amino acids were theoretically studied at different solvents. First, the Density Functional Theory (B3LYP) level with 3-21G, 6-31G and 6-31+G basis sets were employed to optimization of isolated Alanine and Valine amino acids in the gas phase. Moreover, Vib...
